Some golfers want to blend in. They show up with their silver-faced titanium drivers and their chrome irons and look like everyone else on the first tee. Perfectly respectable. Nothing wrong with it.

Then there are the others. TaylorMade built the Shadowfall Collection for them.

Shadowfall is not a new line of technology; let’s be clear about that up front. It is a head-to-toe blackout of some of TaylorMade’s most popular gear: the Qi4D drivers, Qi4D fairway woods, and P·790 irons. Each is wrapped in a matte-black finish that makes the whole bag look like it belongs to someone who drives a matte-black Range Rover and has a very specific Spotify playlist.

Think of the Shadowfall Collection as the Johnny Cash of golf equipment. All black, with no apologies.

While the Shadowfall edition woods and irons look mean, they still perform like the original gear.

The standard Qi4D, Max and LS drivers ($699.99) have aerodynamic shapes that reduce drag and boost clubhead speed. Improved bulge and roll geometry produce tighter spin dispersion on off-center hits, so bad hits don’t punish you quite as severely. The Trajectory Adjustment System weights let players and fitters dial in ball flight, and the four-degree loft sleeve provides control over loft, lie angle, and face angle.

The fairway woods ($399.99) follow the same script. Speed Pocket technology protects ball speed on strikes below the sweet spot. Twist Face nudges those right-side misses back toward the target. The 3-, 5-, and 7-wood options cover every gap between the driver and your long irons.

And then there are the P·790 irons ($1,499.99 for 4-PW, AW), which is where Shadowfall really earns its name. These things look like something out of a James Bond movie. Dr. No would have loved them. The engineering underneath the black finish is as impressive as the looks, with a forged 4340M high-strength steel face that enhances ball speed and SpeedFoam Air in each head to soften the feel at impact. TaylorMade’s FLTD CG technology moves the center of gravity lower in the long irons for easier launch, then higher in the scoring clubs for more spin control.

Once you’ve committed to the aesthetic, you probably want the outfit to match, so the collection extends to apparel as well, with a Shadowfall hoodie ($120), T-shirt ($55), and A-Frame hat ($39.99), all in matching total blackout design.

The Shadowfall Collection is for a specific kind of player. The kind who, when asked what’s in the bag, just smiles.
