The Deep Dive: Ping has never tried to disguise what the G-series irons are meant to be: Easy to hit, forgiving, and confidence-inspiring for the average golfer. While the i-series caters to better players who prize precision and the ability to shape shots, the G-series offerings are for those who are more interested in hitting a 7-iron the proper distance than carving fades into tucked pins. The new G740 irons extend that legacy, but with a refined look and sound that should appeal to a wider range of players.

The G740 is the largest iron in Ping’s lineup. It also has the longest blade length, a thicker topline and a meaningful amount of offset. While accomplished golfers may shy away from those traits, many players with handicaps of 20 or higher find them reassuring. For golfers who struggle to string together a few solid iron swings, that size creates confidence.

The G740 features a cast 17-4 stainless steel body, a material Ping favors for its strength and durability. Designers gave the G740 a 360-degree undercut cavity that removes mass from the center of the head and pushes it toward the perimeter, allowing the face to flex more at impact while increasing stability on off-center strikes.

The G740’s moment of inertia (MOI) is also boosted by the addition of high-density heel and toe weights, which further help reduce twisting on mis-hits.

Inside the cavity, the G740 added a three-piece PurFlex badge to the back of each head, divided into multiple zones. Instead of one large insert dampening vibration, smaller interconnected sections work together to control sound and feel without overly stiffening the hitting area. This lets the face continue to flex freely while delivering a more solid sensation at impact and reducing the hollow, “clicky” sound often associated with irons in this category.

Perhaps the most meaningful upgrade over the G730 irons, which these clubs replace, is the reshaped sole. The G740 has a dual-camber design with a slightly rounded leading edge and more contour from front to back. This should help the clubs move through the turf more efficiently, reduce digging for players with a steep angle of attack and help golfers maintain clubhead speed through impact. It’s the same design philosophy Ping applies to its better-player irons, but adapted here for golfers who need more forgiveness.

The long and mid-irons are designed to launch higher and land softer, making it easier to hold greens. The short irons and wedges are more compact and feature fully-machined faces and grooves to enhance consistency in the scoring zone. Ping also applied its Hydropearl 2.0 finish to the G740. It repels moisture, reduces glare and helps preserve spin in wet or dewy conditions.

PHOENIX – A record-setting MOI for a PING driver makes the new G440 K the company’s straightest and most forgiving model to date while delivering golfers faster ball speeds and CG-shifting adjustability for more distance, PING CEO & President John K. Solheim announced today.

The G440 K driver is available for custom fittings and pre-order at authorized PING golf shops around the world beginning today.

Dual Carbonfly Wrap Technology

Weight savings from the carbon crown and sole in the G440 K driver are re-allocated within the design, mainly into a high-density tungsten back weight, which drives the CG lower and deeper for faster ball speeds and helps achieve the record-setting MOI for a PING driver. In addition to being four grams heavier than the G430 MAX 10K, the back weight is movable to one of three positions (Draw, Neutral, Fade) to shift the CG and achieve the desired results.

Fast, Forgiving Face

The proven T9S+ forged face of the G440 K driver continues to evolve and brings golfers faster ball speeds for longer and straighter drives. Sound Design

Joining the Ti-811 body to the carbon crown and sole of the G440 K driver while ensuring a pleasing sound required PING’s engineering team to develop a composite crown bridge and sole ribs to stiffen the crown and sole during impact, resulting in a solid and slightly muted impact experience.

“With the addition of the carbon sole, we knew the sound characteristics of the G440 K driver would be different than previous models,” said Solheim. “Through finite element analysis (FEA), sound testing and player feedback, our engineers developed the lightweight crown bridge and sole ribs to combat any undesirable frequencies. The Deep Dive: Ping’s history with stability dates back to the moment Karsten Solheim first moved mass to the perimeter of a putter in 1959. That same principle underlies the G440K driver, but the engineers at the brand’s Phoenix, Arizona, headquarters now have far more advanced materials and modeling tools than Solheim ever did in his garage.

The “K” in G440K signals Ping’s latest pursuit of the 10,000 g/cm² threshold. The company hit that milestone with the G430 Max 10K, a driver that instantly became one of the most forgiving models on the market. With the G440K, Ping pushed the concept further by rethinking how and where every gram of mass could be saved and reassigned.

Two carbon fiber panels — one on the crown that wraps around the top edges and another on the sole — form what Ping calls Dual Carbonfly Wrap. Each composite section saves about 3.5 grams compared with titanium. That redistributed mass, combined with a 32-gram adjustable tungsten weight in the back of the head, pulls the center of gravity lower and farther away from the face. The result is an MOI around 10,300 g/cm², roughly two percent higher than the G430 Max 10K and nearly 10 percent higher than the G440 Max. For golfers, that means less twisting on off-center strikes and straighter shots from tee to fairway.

The face is forged from Ping’s proprietary T9S+ titanium, a material strong enough to allow a thinner perimeter and a more flexible hitting area. The result is consistent ball speed across a larger portion of the face.

Inside, Ping redesigned the sound ribs and added a new I-beam-shaped carbon crown rib to tune acoustics while ensuring the head passes the USGA’s “finger test” for crown stiffness. The overall footprint is slightly longer from front to back, but the streamlined shape and deeper sole maintain aerodynamic efficiency.

Longer drivers can help golfers generate more clubhead speed, but they also tend to magnify off-center hits. Because the G440K is so stable and boasts such a high MOI, Ping decided it could extend the standard build length to the USGA limit of 46 inches without sacrificing dispersion.

In internal testing, Ping found the G440K produced about 4.5 yards more total distance and 0.8 mph higher ball speed than the G430 Max 10K, along with a 20 percent tighter dispersion pattern. Those gains may not sound dramatic, but for a company known for steady, data-driven evolution rather than radical reinvention, they’re significant.

The G440K will be available in 9-, 10.5-, and 12-degree lofts, with a 7.5-degree Tour-only head circulating among staff players. For golfers who need more help launching the ball, Ping will offer a High Launch (HL) version with a lighter back weight, ultra-light shaft, and smaller grip to promote more clubhead speed and easier carry distance.

The G440K feels like the culmination of Ping’s decades-long MOI chase — a driver that doesn’t force players to choose between speed, forgiveness and sound. It isn’t flashy, but like the G-series lineage that came before it, this one is built to deliver what matters most: more consistency, more confidence and a few extra fairways even when the strike isn’t perfect.
